The Jerusalem Peace Center

 

The Jerusalem Peace Center (JPC) is located in the city center of Jerusalem. The facility is newly renovated with the following: A lecture hall for 35 people equipped with AV system, a lounge for meeting 15 people, a treatment room for ladies, an office room with 4 workstations for Ambassadors of Peace, a kitchenette and a reception room with additional work station.

Concept: JPC is an open platform carrying a large range of activities. It serves as a peace embassy, peace academy, meeting place for peace builders, a study place for language and culture, a training place for youth leadership, an office for women leaders etc. All NGOs working towards peace are invited to contact us regarding the usage of our facility.

The JPC is open daily and managed by Ambassadors of Peace (AFP) who volunteer their time.

The following programs are already running:

  • A weekly AFP training course aimed for individuals or groups who are interested in creating a culture of peace. The half day program explains the mission of AFP and gives an overview of our activities.
  • A monthly WFWP leadership meeting
  • A monthly religious leaders meeting

    The following programs are planned for the near future:

  • A weekly Arabic and Hebrew classes aimed for Israelis and Palestinians who want to better understand their neighbours.
  • History of the Middle east lectures series.
  • Monthly young ambassadors for peace program

    In addition we are planning to set desks for sports, community service UTS branch and more.

     

    PEACE EDUCATION

    The Jerusalem Peace Center promotes peace by a variety of activities based on the following principles:

    1. All human beings without exception are one family under God.
    2. Clear understanding of both the physical and the spiritual dimensions of our universe are essential for our growth.
    3. The family is the school of love thus Marriage and family are sacred institutions.
    4. The core principle for reconciling enemies is to live for the sake of others.
    5. Interreligious dialogue bringing unity of faith leaders and cooperation with civic and political leaders is essential for peace.

    Through lectures, small group discussions and interactive exercises, it promotes understanding, respect, transcending barriers, reconciliation and cooperation. Ongoing education is offered to people of diverse religious, racial and ethnic groups and all disciplines of human endeavor.

    Ambassadors for Peace: The goal of the education is to raise up Ambassadors for Peace who: exemplify these principles promote a global culture of peace serve as members of national, regional and global peace councils to heal conflict and develop alliances among individuals, educational institutions, organizations, religions, corporations, the media and governments that contribute to peace.

    BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

    The Jerusalem Peace Center works in collaboration with local and international NGO’s, individuals and institutions who share similar values. Our activities include:

    Dialogues: People from the three Abrahamic faiths explore elements of their common heritage that promote understanding, symbolic restitution and new beginnings.

    Pilgrimages: Jews, Christians and Muslims and people of other religions undertake joint pilgrimages, visiting each others’ holy places, studying the holy books together, and praying and marching for peace.

    Fact-Finding Trips: Briefings are offered to political leaders, journalists, educators and peace activists from around the world.

    Person-to-Person Outreach: People visit homes to listen to the experiences of others, offer empathy and exemplify the commonality of the human family.

    Cultural Exchanges: Christian, Jewish and Arab traditions are interwoven in innovative ways through music, drama and other creative arts.

    Service Projects: Young people from diverse backgrounds join together to work for the common good.

    Athletic Competitions: The center promotes opportunities for young athletes to participate in local and International Peace Sports Festival.

    Voices of Peace TV: Interviews broadcast over Internet TV give air to moderate voices from throughout the region calling for peace.

    SUPPORT BASE

    Base of Operations:The Jerusalem Peace Center is an accessible meeting place and support center for local Ambassadors for Peace. Facilities include:
    - conference room
    - place for informal discussions and networking
    - computer and internet access
    - desks
    - telephones
    - kitchenette for preparing refreshments

    Lectures: Experts in various fields make presentations in the conference room, offering insights into how to build peace.

    Local Networking: The Jerusalem Peace Center cooperates with local NGOs and individuals who are promoting a culture of peace, offering its space for a variety of professional and artistic projects.

    Palestinian Networking: The Jerusalem Peace Center supports peace education projects through our companion center in Gaza.

    International Networking: When Ambassadors for Peace from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania come to Israel, the Jerusalem Peace Center provides a location for briefings, meetings with local Ambassadors for Peace, and informal opportunities to learn to know local people from similar backgrounds and from diverse religions, ethnic groups and fields of endeavor.

    Convenient Location: Located near downtown Jerusalem, the center is an ideal setting for welcoming people from Jerusalem and nearby areas as well as international guests staying at hotels.
